What is Backstory Health?
Backstory Health is an app for iPhone and Android, coming soon, that reads your lab results, scans and paper reports from every hospital and puts them on one timeline. You can understand it at a glance and share it with any doctor. Backstory organizes your records. It does not diagnose or replace your doctor.
Does Backstory tell me what my results mean?
No. Backstory shows each result against the range printed by the lab that produced it, for example “In range 70–99” or “Above range < 100”, and how it changed over time. It does not interpret results, diagnose or give medical advice. Questions about what a result means belong with your doctor.
What can I add?
Photos, PDFs and screenshots of lab results, scans and paper reports, from any hospital and any country. You can also import your Apple Health data.
How do I know Backstory read my report correctly?
You can check it. Every value Backstory reads sits next to the page it came from, and every number on your timeline and in your doctor summary links back to its original report.
What does the findings tracker do?
It follows a finding, such as a nodule or a cyst, from report to report: size, side and location. It takes follow-up dates from your doctors’ own recommendations and sends a gentle reminder when a recheck is overdue.
How do I share my history with a doctor?
Email your doctor a one-page PDF before the visit: diagnoses, open findings, trends and medications. Every number links to its original report. The doctor summary is part of Backstory Plus.
Who is Backstory for?
People whose records don’t live in one place: IVF and egg freezing patients with years of tests from different clinics, people living with surveillance scans and follow-ups after a diagnosis, and anyone looking after a parent across many specialists and portals.
Who can use Backstory?
You need to be 18 or older to use Backstory. Parents and legal guardians can keep their children’s records in their own Backstory.
Where are my records stored?
On your own phone, not on our servers. Your records are encrypted.
Who reads my documents?
To read a report, Backstory sends it to an outside AI service that turns the page into the values on your timeline. That service does not train on your data.
Do you sell my data or use it for ads?
No. Your health records are private. We never sell them and never use them for ads.
What does Backstory cost?
Free is $0 and includes 10 documents, timeline and trend charts, and Apple Health import. Backstory Plus is $59 a year or $6.99 a month, with unlimited documents, the findings tracker and reminders, and the one-page doctor summary. Family members are coming soon.
What is the founding member price?
People on the early access list can get Backstory Plus for $29 a year instead of $59, for life. Joining the list is free, and you decide when the app opens.
When can I use Backstory?
